Edgeio - true Web 2.0 Classifieds that was just released to wide public a couple of weeks ago (February 26th, 2006) . I think I visited them once but hasn't realized from the beginning what it was. Well, it happens (I guess). So, what is Edgeio? It is a Classifieds service, tool that crawls the Net and picks up classified listings and pretty much everything that has feeds and keeps them up to date.

Edgeio is all about edge publishing. It is our belief that services that try to restrict how users create and consume information cannot ultimately be successful. Users own their data, and services exist not to silo that data, but rather to add value to it. That is what Edgeio is setting out to do.

We will be focusing on classified listings of any type to start.

At the same time these guys are not trying to hijack anyone's info, but helping
to drive more traffic to the original source through available RSS feeds. Anyone
who has RSS feeds can publish their own listings; using tags you can direct Edgeio
to index and organize your data.

Thatâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s where Edgeio comes in. We will find edge published listings if they include the category or tag â┚¬Å“listingâ┚¬Â within the post or content. The listings will be indexed through the blogâ┚¬â”žÂ¢s RSS feed and aggregated with other â┚¬Å“listings from the edgeâ┚¬Â. Users of the Edgeio service will be able to search through listings and communicate directly with the publisher. Edgeio will also make aggregated listings available though a web service to other Internet sites and services that would like to include edge listings.

We will never attempt to silo or control publisher data, or restrict the ways that listings can be used by others.

It is not even middle of the March - Edgeio has almost 15K items listed and over 29 million websites they track in 1667 cities all over the world. Current categories are available: Autos, Events, For Sale, Housing, Jobs, Other, Personals, Podcasts, Services, Wanted. Check it out, I'm sure you'll find it promising. Who knows, it may become another craiglist.
