fast and easy is not always good. It's about quality - not quantity. I can get about 40,000 links in less than a week - there are publicly available tools for it, but it doesn't necessarily mean they will do good to you.

I've had some good experience with LinkMetro so long as I keep the links "on target" and on topic. I also make sure that the page that I'm trading links with is (a) indexed and (b) not some kind of spammy made-for-Adsense site.

I've also gotten into the habit of checking out the internal pages of some of the reciprocal sites in LinkMetro. In one link request I received recently, for example, the home page had to do with apartments and real estate rentals in a certain town. After clicking through the thing, however, I found that the internal pages were all porn pages. It was a pretty clever disguise and I think a lot of people who just looked at the home page and page rank were probably deceived and linked to them.

It's amazing how many people there ask for links without reading your "terms," however. It does take time to eat the apple and spit out the seeds with LinkMetro or any other reciprocal exchange service. Used wisely and with a bit of caution, I do think that reciprocal links can be beneficial so long as you are linking with quality pages. I tend to be more interested in the quality vs. the page rank when evaluating reciprocal links.
