Google can notify you about possible penalties

looks like Google included a messaging option within Webmaster Central to coomunicate with webmasters regarding their sites. Barry has an interesting writeup about it here

Thanks for the update Max. It is a big deal to at least know what happened and what you can do to clear it up. This looks like going forward we may have a clear understanding of what the issues are if big G doesn't like something we are doing.

Before it was like getting a ticket in the mail revoking your license but with no description of your violation or when your license might be returned. You go before the judge and try to guess what you did. Were you speeding? Did you run a red light. Did you weave on the way home last night. Judge - I don't know what I did but I am really, really sorry about it and I promise not to do that any more.

Am I reading this correctly? It looks like a they may not be notifying everyone at this time but are hopefully moving towards doing just that. I think this is a big leap forward IMHO. Wayne

Wow, this is very helpful. I have a site now that went grey PageRank bar on one of my internal pages. The page disappeared from the SERPs but then came back. I've been wondering if a penalty had been issued. Now I can figure it out.

I never noticed the message center before. I had to run over there real quick to check out a couple of sites. No messages.
