Lethbridge Real Estate - EcoENERGY GRANTS Back Again!

The federal government has renewed the ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program, an initiative that helps Canadians save on home improvements and energy costs while protecting the environment.

“With this program, Canadians can make their homes more energy-efficient and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Canada,” said Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources, the Honourable Joe Oliver."

Until March 31, 2012, homeowners may be eligible to receive grants of up to $5,000 to make their homes more energy-efficient.

The program could help up to 250,000 Canadian homeowners improve their homes’ energy efficiency and generate as much as $4 billion in economic activity across Canada.

Prior to Budget 2011, the Government of Canada provided retrofit incentives to over half a million Canadians.

Homeowners who participated in the program saved an average of 20 per cent on their energy bills.

I have personally used this program in the past to renovate one of my Lethbridge homes and found it to be not too bad. Unfortunately, the cost of the before and after inspection is something which I have a bit of a problem with, as it seemed like locally there was one individual who received 100% of the benefit of this program and due to his monopoly on the program made out like a bandit.
