I am unhappy with the agent who is selling my house. Can I switch agents? findwell agent Lauren GeRoy answers in this installment of Ask an Agent.

Q: I am unhappy with the agent who is selling my house. Can I switch agents?

When you sign a listing agreement to list your property for sale you are committing to a specific period of time with an agent. Most agents, however, value their reputation and want to make sure that you’re happy.  So, if during that listing period you become unhappy for some reason, most agents will allow you to cancel the listing agreement and change agents.

Q: How do I cancel a listing agreement?

The best thing to do if you are unhappy with your listing agent is to be upfront with them. Tell them the reasons why you’re unhappy and hope that maybe they’ll offer to change something and make things better for you. But in the event that they don’t, then it’s a good idea to be honest with them and let them know that you are thinking of switching agents.
