You need someone who knows this area inside and out! I can work with you to find the right home at the right price for you, including all the neighborhood amenities that matter, not to mention the essential criteria you have for your ideal home. Most of the homes in Brookside were built in the 1910-1940’s. Some of the different styles of homes you will find in Brookside are Anglo-American, English and French Period Houses like Colonial Revival, Neoclassical, Tudor, Chateauesque, Beaux Arts and French Eclectic. Other common styles in the area are Mediterranean Period Houses, like Italian Renaissance, Mission, Spanish Eclectic, Monterey and Pueblo Revival. Some of the more Modern houses are Prairie Style, Craftsman, Modernistic and International. These homes are built differently as you could imagine. We are familiar with the construction of these homes and potential problems that can arise during inspections. Remodeling a house of this age is not the same as working on a newer house. The walls are plaster-lath, most of the original kitchen and bath floors have a four inch layer of concrete under the tile. Have you ever painted textured walls? Some contractors in the area pride themselves on finishing touches that will look great and last long. Did you realize people used to hang pictures from the crown molding? Its not uncommon to overlay ceilings and flooring but be aware of what your getting into. These older homes were built with stone foundations 16” thick. I’m not a plumber or electrician but I know the difference between clay tile drains, PVC, Galvanized, Copper, Pex plumbing and knob and tube wiring.
