My first experience in the world of real estate was back in the UK when I started working for a direct lender. For 5 or so years I interviewed buyers, approved them for a mortgage, processed their paperwork, and with the help of their Estate Agents and Attorneys, placed them in their new homes. Later I became the Mortgage Underwriter, making the final decision on mortgage loan applications.

After that I moved to a Life Assurance company and dealt with this side of home buying which at the time was a little different than it is today. In those days many buyers paid interest only on the mortgage loans and bought full life endowment policies to accumulate value and ultimately pay of the debt. The advantage was in the event of death the mortgage debt was covered by the life assurance part of the policy. The down side, the profits were based on the company's investment strategies which were primarily linked to the stock market, meaning the policy values could actually decline. I also helped buyers take out term policies as an alternative.

After having 2 children I gave up work and became a full time Mom not returning to work until my youngest was about 14. During that period of time our family moved from the UK to the USA. We spent 8 years in Illinois before relocating to Florida. After only 6 months I realized Florida was not for me and to Illinois we returned. Shortly after that I got my real estate license. After a short period of time with a small independent company I moved to a RE/MAX office and really started educating myself about all aspects of real estate. I have my ABR, Accredited Buyer Representative designation, my e-PRO designation and my GRI Graduate Realtor Institute designation. These designations provide a lot of education about real estate that are not the every day occurrences. Things like 1031 tax exchanges, multi family property sales, tax advantages for Realtors, how to work with relocating clients and so on.

In the fall of 2007 I studied for my brokers license, passed in October, got my ducks in a row as they say and opened my own Brokerage in June 2008. I helped my husband study for his sales license and am now in the process of building my office but at the same time I still enjoy selling real estate in the Barrington area. It gives me great pleasure to see the smiles on buyers faces when you tell them the house is theirs! This job takes effort and if an agent does not put forth that effort, their clients will undoubtedly suffer. I am pleased I can give this career my full attention, my kids are grown and taking care of themselves, so I work my career full time, actually over time too.
